During Yuan Dynasty, provincial system was introduced throughout country. Shanghai County was established during Yuan Dynasty and Songjiang Mansion was established during Qing Dynasty. Shanghai was founded during time of Republic of China and exists to this day. The name of Hong Kong comes from Ming Dynasty, and at that time it was a place where spices were transported, which is why it is called Hong Kong. The real name of Macau is Haojing or Haojingao, and it was called Macau during Ming Dynasty.

Liaoning is earliest place name in northeast China. In northeast, there is Liaohe River. The Yan State once established Liaodong County and Liaoxi County here, and Qin Dynasty inherited its territory. Liaodong is known as stronghold of Central Dynasty in northeast of Jimi. During Song Dynasty, powerful Liao State arose in Liao River basin, and during Yuan Dynasty, Liaoyang Province was established, which was beginning of creation of province in Liaoning. In 1929, Fengtian Province became Liaoning Province, which means "Calm of Liaohe".

Jilin Province, earliest land of Fuyu Kingdom, Bohai Kingdom emerged during Tang Dynasty. During Liao Dynasty, it was land of Dongdan Kingdom, and during Ming Dynasty, it was territory of Haixi Jurchens. After establishment of Qing Dynasty, General Ninguta settled here. In twelfth year of reign of Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty (1673), construction of city of Jilin began, which was called "Jilin Ula". In 1757, Qianlong replaced General Ningut with General Jilin. Jilin Province was established in 1907.

Heilongjiang Province, whose name comes from Heishui. In ancient China, Heilongjiang was called "Black Water". During Tang Dynasty, locals were called Heishui Mohe and were once given title of Heishui Dudufu. During Liao Dynasty, it was place where Jurchens lived, and during Ming Dynasty, Jurchens (wild Jurchens) operated here in East China Sea. After Qing Dynasty unified Donghai of Jurchens, mansion of Heilongjiang general was created, which is origin of name Heilongjiang.

North Korea, name "Asahi Bright". The Shan Hai Jing reports that "in East China Sea, in corner of North Sea, there is a country called Korea." In history, there are Jizi North Korea, Wyman North Korea and so on. Han Shu has Korean Biographies. After founding of country, Li Chenggui asked Ming dynasty to give country a name, so Zhu Yuanzhang named it "North Korea". Sakhalin Island, Sakhalin is a minority language in northeast China, meaning "Heihekou Island" and was once called "Black Dragon Island" in Chinese. However, Kuye, Kushuo, Kishi, Moezhu, Guwei, Kuyi, Kuu, Kuye, Kuye are transliterated in Chinese historical documents.

The Mongolian plateau was called a desert in ancient China. Among them, south of Yinshan Mountain and Gobi Desert is called "Monan" and north is called "Mobei". During Han Dynasty, Huns in Monan area were called South Huns, while those in north were called North Huns. Since then, this place has been successively occupied by Xianbei, Rouran, Turks, Uighurs, Mongols and other ethnic groups. The Qinghai-Tibetan Plateau was place where Western Qiang operated in ancient times. Among them, Hehuang Valley was stronghold for Central Plains Dynasty to penetrate Xiqiang area, Han Dynasty established Xiping Pavilion and Xiping County, and Northern Song Dynasty changed Xining to Xining, which means "Xiqiang's tranquility." During Tang Dynasty, Tubo rose and unified Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. During Yuan Dynasty, Tubo area was included in territory, and Xuanzhen Yuan was created to manage Tubo. During this period, Tubo was divided into three parts: Uszan (Tibet), Khamba (Xikang) and Anduo (Qinghai). Usang was divided into former three parts: Tibet, Rear Tibet and Ngari. Front Tibet is region of Lhasa and Shannan, Rear Tibet is Shigatse region, and Ngari is on northern Tibetan plateau. Later, Yuan Dynasty created three Xuanweixi, Duogangxi (Xikang), Duoshima (in Qinghai, also known as Tubo Yiweixi), and Wuxizan. The Ming Dynasty secured Wuxi Zangdusi, Duogandusi, Military and Civil Marshal Olisi's Mansion, and Hezhouwei for above areas.

During Qing Dynasty, Qinghai-Tibet was incorporated into territory. In 1700, Kangxi sent troops to attack Kangding region, which was part of Sichuan province. In 1717, Dzungar Khanate sent troops to Qinghai-Tibet Plateau to destroy Heshuote Khanate. Subsequently, Emperor Kangxi of Qing Dynasty ordered Qing army to enter Weizang and drive out Dzungar army, thus controlling entire Qinghai-Tibet Plateau. In 1723, Luo Bu Zang Danjin, grandson of Gu Shihan of Heshuo Special Division, mutinied in Qinghai and was crushed by Qing army. In 1724, Yongzheng appointed Xining as minister of affairs in Qinghai. In 1728 Yongzheng appointed a minister in Tibet. During Republic of China period, office of Xining was transformed into Qinghai Province.

In ancient times, Xinjiang was called Western Regions. The Han Dynasty established Western Regions Protectorate, while Tang Dynasty established Anxi Protectorate and Beiting Protectorate. The Northern Song dynasty belonged to Uyghur land, while Western Liao Kingdom was established in Southern Song dynasty. After Mongols destroyed Western and Western Liao dynasties, they founded Chagatai Khanate. At beginning of Qing Dynasty, western regions, Yunnan, Sichuan, Guizhou and other places were newly incorporated under rule of Qing Dynasty, collectively referred to as "Six Halls of Xinjiang". In 1757, Qianlong crushed Dzungar uprising and named it Xinjiang Province because of meaning of "homecoming".
